Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong talks openly about abusing drugs and alcohol for years in an interview with Rolling Stone. He reveals information about his blackouts and other experiences during his intoxicated, erratic days that he is leaving behind. E! Online also reports on Feb. 27, the 41-year-old lead guitarist and vocalist went into rehab after his crazy cursing scene at the iHeart Radio festival last September in Las Vegas.
During the festival, Armstrong smashed his guitar and yelled,
"What the f--k! I'm not f—king Justin Bieber, you motherf—kers,” as well as other irrational things.
Armstrong revealed the events leading up to his breakdown. He said,
"I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night. I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout."
As far as his on-stage meltdown, Armstrong said,
"I remember tiny things.”
He also says that he asked his wife Adrienne,
“How bad was it?”
Her response was,
“It's bad. I called your manager.”
The manager decided that Armstrong needed to get on an airplane to check into rehab at once.
Green Day will be on tour this September. In Instagram Armstrong wrote,
"I just wanted to thank you all for all the love support you've showed for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I'm getting better everyday."
Now that Armstrong is recovering, do you think the band needs to change their name again? It was originally called Sweet Children in 1987, but the name was changed to Green Day in 1989 because the band was fond of marijuana. If you think they should change the name, what do you recommend?
