The two-time Tony Award winning hit musical show was performed at 3 and at 7:30 pm. Based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum album, the touring version of “American Idiot” featured the talents of Jared Nepute, Casey O’Farrell and Dan Tracy. Their three characters (Johnny, Will and Tunny, respectively) struggle to find themselves in a post 9/11 world. Each takes a different path to adulthood.
The story was told through the lyrics of Billy Joe Armstrong, the lead singer of Green Day. Some popular Green Day songs featured in the show included “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and “Holiday.”
Although the theater was only two thirds full for the 3:00 show, people did come from all over northwest Ohio to attend the show. Melanie Baldwin came all the way from Defiance to see the show. “I am here on a girls’ day out,” she said pointing to the other three ladies with her. Sammi Leu and Trevor Tucker also made the drive from Defiance to attend the show. Leu said, “I’m excited to be here because this is his (Tucker’s) first musical.”
“American Idiot” played for a single day in Toledo. Upcoming performances of the show include Fort Wayne, IN on April 22 at the Embassy Theatre and in Cleveland, OH on April 25-27 at the Palace Theatre.
