Asking its readers two weeks ago to select their favorite punk rock bands, Rolling Stone Magazine published the results today.
In a stunning turnaround the best punk rock band of all time was christened.... Green Day. Taking the silver and bronze were The Clash and The Ramones, respectively.
The top ten list ranked as follows:

With all due respect to Green Day and their Gilman Street roots, the list touched off a nerve with those who disagreed and left comments saying as much, in addition to listing a bevy of artists who could have easily replaced them such as Minor Threat, The New York Dolls, The Cramps, Wire, Circle Jerks, The Buzzcocks, Patti Smith, U.K. Subs, Husker Du, etc. The list goes on for about a mile.
Green Day being chosen as the best punk band is not like the earth stopped rotating around its axis, but it’s pretty darn close.
How did so many ill-informed have access to computers at exactly the same moment for precisely the same poll? It’s dookie for sure.
