Just seven days remain before Tulsa’s season opener against Bowling Green. The Golden Hurricane seek to repeat as Conference USA champion in 2013 and the key will be the experience of quarterback Cody Green.
Green was the signal caller last year for TU’s league title and Liberty Bowl Championship team. He feels more settled after one year of experience under his belt.
“I think I am 110 percent more comfortable,” Green said.
“Last year, I really depended on the defense to dictate what I wanted to do with the ball offensively. Now I dictate what I really want to do and I can manipulate the defense to do what I want them to do with this offense, which is awesome. ” Green said. “It is simple but there is so many combinations and things that you’re able to do if you can learn how to do it the right way.”
Green played in 13 of the Hurricane’s 14 games last season, throwing for 2,592 yards and 17 touchdowns while making C-USA honorable mention.
Can the offense can take off again. Green is confident it will.
“Just because of the weapons, the leadership and the experience we have from every single position,” Green said.
“I don’t think we have ever had a seasoned group that we ever have before,” Green said.
“Those guys are animals,” Green said.
On the offensive line, people say this year will be a rebuilding stage for TU.
“But guess what? We have every single one of our guys that hopefully will start this year, that have played before,” Green said. “You call it rebuilding, I’m going to say it’s more experience. It’s going to be fun to be a part of this offense."
