The minutes until the Super Bowl are quickly counting down from 100. But that is still enough time to prepare and engage in a true Green Bay Packers fan feast for the big game. When it comes to our Wisconsin brethren, game time meal is pretty simple and to the point: Bratwurst, sauerkraut, and beer. According to my Pack expert, Lori Punko of Broomfield, CO, the beer of choice to go with the brats and kraut is none other than Leinenkugel's.
According to the Wisconsin Historical Society, "Nothing quite says Wisconsin like bratwurst and Sheboygan," which is known as the "wurst city in the world!" With the Packers playing in Super Bowl XLV today, the folks up Highway 43 in Green Bay would beg to differ. But they do agree on the bratwurst, although the brand of choice may be a point of contention.
How do the calories of these staple add up? Let's find out.
Bratwurst -
According to Wikipedia, Bratwurst is a traditional German sausage. According to TheCalorieCounter.com, one link of bratwurst comes in at 281 calories, although that may be higher or lower depending on the size of the link.
If put together in a sandwich, the calorie count is much higher. According to FineCooking.com, a grilled bratwurst sandwich with tomato jam and sauerkraut comes in at 830 calories. If you add cheese, another Wisconsin favorite, the calorie count goes even higher.
Sauerkraut -
Sauerkraut may be the least caloric food of choice to be consumed during the Super Bowl. According to the government, sauerkraut comes in at a whopping 22 calories per cup!
Leinenkugel Beer -
According to Beer100.com, Leinenkugel Original comes in at 152 calories per 12 ounce serving. Their other "regular" beers come in from 149-170 calories. Their light beers come in at 105-110 calories.
Enjoy the game!

Comments
One of my favorite apps to make for a Packers game is Pesto Pizza Pinwheels. They're super easy to make, they sport the Packers' "green", and are absolutely delicious.
