Though Packers coach Mike McCarthy did not disclose any official information on Clay Matthews injury, he does hope that the star linebacker will not miss the rest of the regular season. According to ESPN, McCarthy stated, “I’m hopeful it’s not season-ending.”
At least Clay Matthews was doing something constructive on the play where he injured the thumb. As one of the most menacing players in the backfield, Clay Matthews sacked Matthew Stafford for a 12 yard loss.
The Green Bay Packers beat the Lions to rise to (2-2) in the NFC North division, but the loss of Matthews is not what the division champs need. He is the defensive leader for a team that’s played a lot better this season.
However, in their two losses, the Green Bay Packers have given up 34 points in each game. In the two wins they held opponents to 29 total points.
If Clay Matthews is out for the full month, he will miss games with Baltimore, Cleveland, Minnesota, and Chicago. Those final two games will be huge in the division race.
