Comic book licenses continue to extend their reach into to the realm of television this year with the latest announcement that a Green Arrow TV series is now being planned for the CW network. According to sources, a new hour-long pilot episode is currently in development, being written and executively produced by co-writers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim (The Green Lantern) and Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe). In fact, Kreisberg already has some experience with the Green Arrow character in comics, having written several stories for Green Arrow and Black Canary beginning back in 2008.
This wouldn’t be the first time the classic DC Comics character has graced the small screen. As fans may remember, Green Arrow was originally introduced as a guest star on the CW’s popular Smallville series before becoming a regular cast member in the later seasons. Portrayed by Justin Hartley, the Green Arrow character went on to appear in over 70 episodes and proved to be a fan-favorite amongst fans of the show.
While Justin Hartley doesn’t appear to be involved in the new project and there’s been no mention of bridging the two shows together, there’s no doubt that the CW will be giving serious consideration to the idea an all-new superhero series based on a DC Comics property, especially following the completion of the Smallville series last year.
The proposed show will be produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
So, what do you think? Would you be interested in watching a series based on Green Arrow?
