Greek Super League teams Paok Salonika and AEK Athens continue on in 2011 UEFA Europa League competition as both teams entered the first round of group play in early September.
The GSL's third and fourth representative were eliminated from play for different reasons.
Panathinaikos lost to Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC by 4-2 aggregate in two matches while Olympiacos Volou were expelled from further play in this season's UEFA Europa League and handed a three-year suspended ban from UEFA competition after Greek football authorities docked the club 10 points for their alleged involvement in a match-fixing scandal.
Olympicos Volou had beaten FC Differdange in two straight matches by scores of 3-0 each which would have advanced them to group play before UEFA's decision was handed down with a subsequent appeal by the club denied.
UEFA officials decided to award Olympiacos Volou's place to FC Differdange in the next round of competition
After playing two games in Group A, PAOK sits with two points after tying both Tottenham Hotspur (0-0) and Rubin Kazan (2-2) while AEK sits in a less favorable position in Group L after suffering losses to Anderlecht (4-1) and SK Sturm Graz (2-1).
Both teams prepare to play their next Europa League games on Oct. 20 and Nov. 3 while immersed in the front end of Greek Super League play.
