Over the next few months, I will run through the Top 50 matches in Wrestle Mania history (in my humble opinion) as the 29th edition of the event takes place on Apr. 7, live from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Today, we look at the match that comes in at No. 7.
#7, Intercontinental Champion Macho Man Randy Savage vs. Ricky the Dragon Steamboat—Wrestle Mania 3 (1987)—Detroit, Michigan
(Ranked the best match from Wrestle Mania 3)
While Wrestle Mania 3 will always be remembered for Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant (and rightfully so), this match between Savage and Steamboat was way ahead of its time in terms of in-ring work. A classic wrestling match with plenty of near falls between two men that would go on to win World Championships down the road. In the end, Steamboat wins via pin fall to capture the I/C Title. Why these two didn’t meet the following year at ‘Mania in the WWE Championship tournament is beyond me.
