Greatest matches in Wrestle Mania history: No. 50

Over the next few months, I will run through the Top 50 matches in Wrestle Mania history (in my humble opinion) as the 29th edition of the event takes place on Apr. 7, live from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Today, we start with No. 50, which turns out to be a two way tie.

#50-A, Triple H vs. The Undertaker in a No Holds Barred match—Wrestle Mania 17 (2001)—Houston, Texas

(Ranked the fifth best match from Wrestle Mania 17)

The first of three ‘Mania meetings between these two legends. The bout spilled into the crowd and featured a nice spot where Taker had HHH up for the Last Ride only for HHH to break (a prop) sledgehammer off Taker’s head. Undertaker ends up getting the win, moving to 9-0 at Wrestle Mania.

#50-B, The Rock and Mick Foley vs. Batista, Intercontinental Champion Randy Orton and Ric Flair—Wrestle Mania 20 (2004)—New York, New York

(Ranked the third best match from Wrestle Mania 20)

The match was not a five star classic but did have a special feel to it. Flair attempting his own version of ‘The People’s Elbow’ was awesome. The crowd seemed to be in it for most of the bout. In the end, Orton pinned Foley to give Evolution the victory.
