Over the next few months, I will run through the Top 50 matches in Wrestle Mania history (in my humble opinion) as the 29th edition of the event takes place on Apr. 7, live from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Today, we look at the match that comes in at No. 28
#28, WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle —Wrestle Mania 20 (2004)—New York, New York
(Ranked the second best match from Wrestle Mania 20)
To me, this match has it all, great technical wrestling and storytelling. Angle seemed to have the match won a few times but Guerrero avoided defeat. In the end, Guerrero untied his boot so when Angle went for the Ankle Lock, the boot fell off and Guerrero rolled Angle for the pin, retaining the WWE Championship. This was Eddie’s first PPV title defense as he had just won the gold from Brock Lesnar a month earlier at the 2004 No Way Out.
