We have made it to the final bout in our countdown of the Top 50 matches in Wrestle Mania history (in my humble opinion) as the 29th edition of the event takes place on Apr. 7, live from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Today, we look at the match that comes in at No. 1.
#1, Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin in a Submission match with Ken Shamrock as the guest referee—Wrestle Mania 13 (1997)—Chicago, Illinois

In what was a subpar Wrestle Mania otherwise, this match was an absolute gem as not only did it have a great mix of in-ring work, brawling and storytelling, it also allowed Steve Austin and Bret Hart to switch roles. Hart was a face (although starting to turn a bit) and Austin was the heel. When the match was over, Hart was booed and Austin was cheered. Austin being locked in the sharpshooter while bleeding from his forehead to end the match was the perfect conclusion to the bout. Hart wins when Austin ‘passed out’.
