Over the next few months, I will run through the Top 50 matches in Wrestle Mania history (in my humble opinion) as the 29th edition of the event takes place on Apr. 7, live from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Today, we look at the match that comes in at No. 15.
#15, WWE Champion Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels in a 60 minute Iron Man match—Wrestle Mania 12 (1996)—Anaheim, California
(Ranked the best match from Wrestle Mania 12)
This match was a marathon and both HBK and Bret worked extremely hard. After the 20 minute mark, things picked up and there were a number of near falls. As the 60 minutes was set to expire, Bret had HBK locked into the Sharpshooter but HBK didn’t tap. The match was ordered to go into a sudden overtime by WWE President Gorilla Monsoon as HBK picked up the pin fall decision to win his first WWE World Championship. Meanwhile, Bret left the WWE following the bout and didn’t return until the fall (where he took on Stone Cold Steve Austin at the 1996 Survivor Series).
