The next meeting will be on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Rainbow Library. There will be live music from 1 pm and the talk will start at 2 pm. The Rainbow Library is in the Northwest end of the Vegas Valley at 3150 N. Buffalo Dr. near Cheyenne.

The topic of the June meeting will be ‘Orchids for every day of the year’ presented by Peter Lin who has at least a thousand orchids in his collection in Southern California. He will be sharing what orchids to have in a collection that will provide blooms throughout the year. There will also be some orchids for sale.

In March the GLVOS had an Orchid Show at the West Charleston Library. There was a wonderful display of blooming orchids along with talks and presentations. Information tables were set up with useful and interesting information about orchids. One display was about the Native Orchids of Nevada and the Mojave. Another table was a selection of the books on orchids that are available to check out from the library.

It was a wonderful opportunity to take pictures of these beautiful flowers in all their forms and colors. See the accompanying slideshow of some of the photos taken at the Orchid Show here in Las Vegas.

With all the orchids available now from different stores around the valley, the Orchid Society is a wonderful source of information and encouragement for those who would like to nurture a gift orchid to bloom again or to begin a collection.

There is a regular newsletter available by email through Carol Siegel, Editor and member. If you would like to receive the GLVOS newsletter you can contact her at . The latest edition has detailed information about the Catasetum fimbriatum orchid which is very interesting.
