Wordsmiths, be warned: The 5th annual Des Moines Scrabble tournament has moved! Instead of Stoney Creek Inn in Johnston, the tournament will now be held the weekend of February 9 and 10 at RDG Planning & Design at 301 Grand Avenue.
The list of prestigious entrants currently encompasses a wide variety of skill levels, and includes experts Matthew Ridout, the Des Moines Scrabble Club coordinator, and local veterinarian Chuck Riordan, as well as Nebraskan rival George Asaka and family man James Ferguson. The novice division appears quite heavy in number at this time, so the top few seeds at that level may be forced to play up into the intermediate division to even things out. Keep an eye on this space for more information and official tournament results as they come.
The Des Moines Scrabble Club meets twice a week, at 1 PM on Sundays at Amici's Coffeehouse downtown, and at 6 PM on Tuesday evenings in the Merle Hay Mall food court.
