Greater Cincinnati Race for the Cure

The list of benefits that accompany a hearty sweat session are a dime a dozen. Yoga studios are popping up like weeds, while gyms often look like Kenwood Towne Center on Christmas Eve--a lethal combo, might I add. Oh, and thinking about signing up for a 10K? Might as well spring for a half. It's a progressive movement, and just when you think the list of perks can't grow any longer, well, it can. Regularly breaking a sweat might even turn you into a cancer-fighting powerhouse.

"Moderate exercise such as brisk walking 2 hours a week cuts risk of breast cancer 18%. Regular workouts may lower your risks by helping you burn fat, which otherwise produces its own estrogen, a known contributor to breast cancer," reports Prevention.

With all this ta-ta talk on the tongue, it may be a good time to sign up for the Greater Cincinnati Race for the Cure on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. The Competitive Runner 5k starts at 8:45 a.m.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure launched in 1982 and is now the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, and raise funds for research.
