Taylor Swift, 19, had a busy week, hosting Saturday Night Live last weekend and performing at and winning in four nominated categories (including beating all the big boys for Entertainer of the Year) at the Country Music Association Awards last night. Joe Cada, the local guy (from either Chesterfield Township of Shelby Township depending on your source) became the youngest player to ever win the World Series of Poker tournament at only 21 years old.
Not being a big country music fan, I wasn't thrilled when I saw that Swift was both the host and the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last weekend. But rather than go through all of the effort of locating (okay, reaching for) the remote, I left it on NBC.
What a delightful surprise (did I just use the word delightful in a sentence?). She was hilarious. Her comic timing was very good as she performed a funny opening monologue, had fun with her incident with the classless Kanye West at a previous awards show ("We have a great show. Kanye West is not here."), and her impersonation of Kate Gosselin was spot on and funny.
Last night at the CMAs, Taylor won the Entertainer of the Year Award, beating out the other all-male nominees. Swift is only the sixth female to win the award in the CMAs 43 year history. She also took home the Female Vocalist of the Year, Misic Video of the Year and Album of the Year awards.
