If you haven't checked out Victor Tangos, located in the Knox-Henderson hood, then it's high time you put it on your "must try" list of places to munch and imbibe. If you've been before, but not in recent months, then you'll want to revisit as well.
Why? Well, for starters, there's a new food and drink team at the helm, including executive chef Kirstyn Brewer, who has revamped the menu with an array of ever-evolving innovative items certain to grab your attention.

Grilled Celery Root

Brewer says that she likes to give people the comforting flavors they crave in a slightly different way than they might expect. She accomplishes that well with a slew of dishes, including a perfectly grilled hanger steak, nicely charred on the outside and medium-rare on the inside—served on a bed of creamy greens and topped off with a fried egg. A flavorful scallop entree features large, succulent seared scallops resting on top of a mole sauce with white beans and shishito peppers. There's also a tantalizing whole roasted sea bass with pimenton aioli nesting in savory smashed lemony potatoes. Salads and starters are just as exciting— including a crispy flatbread with confit duck, figs and goat cheese, grilled celery root with tonnato sauce, and a luscious polenta with root vegetables.

When it comes to desserts, Brewer can do those too. Especially notable is her twist on a tarte tatin featuring an upside down apple cake with bits of bacon that's surrounded by spicy caramel bacon popcorn and a scoop of bourbon ice cream. A warm, gooey toffee cake with marscapone cream, and a salted caramel peanut butter chocolate tart also hit the right notes.

There's plenty to like about the adventurous menu and the servings are large enough to share. It's definitely the place to bring a few friends so you can really explore the scrumptious food options. It is also a perfect place to enjoy imbibing on Alex Fletcher's tasty cocktails. You might remember Fletcher from his most recent stint at the People’s Last Stand. Now he's VT's new bar manager. Fletcher has catapulted his cocktail repertoire with everything from fruits, vegetables and fresh herbs to housemade bitters, syrups and shrubs (a vinegar-based flavoring dating back to the 18th century). One of Fletcher's delightful poison concoctions is his Barbados punch bowl. This isn't your regular syrupy spiked fruit juice, it's an aromatic blend of Barbados 5 yr. rum with lemon, ginger ale and a blackberry tarragon shrub. It is the perfect way to transport yourself and around 6 of your best mates straight to the islands, at least while you're depleting this massive vessel of heavenly brew.

All in all, Victor Tangos offers everything for a superb night out on the town; delicious food, divine drinks and a lively atmosphere for a reasonable price.
