Great places to sleed in Richmond

With snow in the future forecast now is a great time to plan where you'll be sledding after the snow piles up.

Richmond has great places to sled everywhere from Hollywood Cemetery to a number of parks in the Richmond area. The list below should help narrow down the major decision on where to go for the record-breaking snow of 2013.

Maymont

has several sledding hills located throughout the 100-acre park. Favorites include The Nature Center at 2201 Shield's Lake Drive, Dooley Mansion near the Hampton Street Gate and the Children's Farm.

Forest Hill Park

A favorite with Richmond families, hundreds flock for great sledding. This park is great for younger children and perfect for hitting up with an inflatable inner tube, plastic sled or more.

Hollywood Cemetery

There's a big hill down the back of Hollywood Cemetery that locals often sled down in winter. It overlooks the river and is quite a picturesque spot.

Libbie Hill Park

Enthusiast of the snow go to Libbie Hill, every time snow falls. There are great hills for sledding. If you like to go fast this is the place for you! Location: 28th and Eat Franklin Streets.

Boatwright Lawn at The University of Richmond


Become a youngster again and sled with the University of Richmond students! This is a great spot for the young and young at heart as well as people on the West End. Hit the hill in front of the Boatwright Library.

Powhatan Hill Park in Fulton Hill

This hill is located at Powhatan Playground, right above Gillies Creek, at Williamsburg Road and Fulton Street. It can’t be missed. So tell all your friends!

Gamble's Hill Park Downtown


Located behind Ethyl Corporation, Gamble's Hill is a great spot for sledding with a huge sloping hill. Just watch out for the street. Located at corner of 2nd Street and Byrd Street.
