Patrick Chan's world record performance in the short program at the World Figure Skating Championships on Wednesday in London, Ontario was not the only performance that was exceptional by a Canadian figure skater.
In the pairs' competition, Meagan Duhamel of Lively, Ontario and Eric Radford of Balmertown, Ontario are in second place after a posting a score of 73.61 points.
According to CBC Sports, what set Duhamel and Radford apart from the competition was their ability to do triple Lutzes as well as most single figure skaters perform them on a regular basis.
Duhamel and Radford, who finished in fifth place at the 2012 World Figure Skating Championships in Nice, France, are trying to become the first Canadian pairs team to medal since Jessica Dube of Drummondville, Quebec and Bryce Davison of Huntsville, Ontario finished in third place at the 2008 World Figure Skating Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Russian pair of Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov lead with 75.84 points.
On the men's side, there is also a realistic chance that Chan could be joined on the podium by another Canadian, Kevin Reynolds of Vancouver, British Columbia. Reynolds was the only figure skater in the short program to execute two quads and is sitting in third place with 85.16 points.
The men's and pairs' long program will take place in London, Ontario on Friday. he outstanding Canadian results comes less than one year from the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
