Some of your favorite recording artist and DJ's are participating in music festivals this winter season.. I found some of the hottest music festivals that you must attend especially if you are a music lover!
The Jamaica Jazz and Blues Music Festival-The Art of Music. January 26th - 28th, 2012. This festival will star Celine Dion and Jamaica's very own Shaggy. I had a chance to speak to Shaggy about the festival:
Hi Shaggy, First of all, congratulations on your Grammy nomination!
Shaggy: Thank you! I’m excited and honored to be a nominee for another Grammy for my most recent album Summer in Kingston, which launched last July in Kingston, Jamaica.
It's winter time here in Chicago and traveling to a warm climate would be a great vacation. Tell me about the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.
Shaggy: Come to Jamaica! It’s always warm here! The Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival - Art of Music will be held over three days, January 26-28 at The Multi-Purpose Stadium in Trelawny. This year’s event takes on added significance because it’s the first major event this year to kickoff Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary. The unstoppable Celine Dion will be our headliner this year! Her first performance in the Caribbean! Cee Lo Green, Heads of State, The Temptations, Destra, Jully Black, Nicole Henry, and yours truly will also perform.
Jamaica will be celebrating its 50th year Anniversary during the Festival as well.
Shaggy: Yes, Jamaica celebrates 50 years as an independent nation on August 6, 2012, so the festival will dedicate the entire Thursday night lineup to the history of Jamaica’s music. Performances will include the various musical eras: ska, rocksteady, dub, reggae. The lineup has everyone from John Holt, Yellow Man, Half Pint, and Marcia Griffiths, to Kymani Marley and myself.
I have never been to Jamaica. What are the top 3 things that you would suggest I experience at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival?
Shaggy: As a Jamaican artist, I would say the top three things to do at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival is enjoy great music in a great environment, get some great jerk from Scotchies and check out the artisan village where you can see the work of some of our top artists and craft vendors.
What night will you perform? Any special guest performing with you?
Shaggy: I will be performing on opening night, Thursday, January 26 as a part of a special tribute commemorating 50 years of Jamaican music. Rayvon will be on stage with me doing our classics. One Love.
