Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival returns to Madison Oct. 3-6

Preparations have been underway for months and excitement is building in the Wisconsin and Midwest cannabis community as the days tick down to the 43rd Annual Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival, held in downtown Madison the first weekend of October.

Attendees rally on the Wisconsin Capitol Steps at Harvest Fest 42 in 2012.

The festival itself is again being held on Library Mall at State and Lake Streets downtown adjacent to the University of Wisconsin campus with live music and speakers stretching from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 12:30 p.m. to the 4:20 p.m. parade start on Sunday. These are free events open to the public.

At around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, the annual parade up State St. to the Wisconsin State Capitol moseys out of Library Mall for a stroll up State St. for a concert and rally on the Capitol steps featuring the music of the Madison psychedelic/jam rock band the Grasshoppers and speeches from a number of invited speakers including state and national hemp and cannabis law reform advocates and local and state elected officials.

In addition to the core events at Library Mall and the Capitol, there will be satellite events starting Thursday night each night through Saturday night. One example is Friday night, when the IMMLY Medical Cannabis Benefit returns for a 10th year with a new location at the Crystal Corner Bar and a later start time, along with hot blues and reggae.

As in previous years, Harvest Fest will include an array of speakers from not just Madison and Wisconsin but also as far away as Oregon, Nebraska and New York City. State Rep Melissa Sargent of Madison will be speaking at the Capitol on Sunday after the parade.
