Tuesday, April 26 - Beantown Noir Series Finale – 2-4-1 Double Feature
Tuesdays in April have played a tribute to Beantown (Boston, for those of you scratching your heads) and film, showcasing a popular Boston-based drama from the last decade at the Denver FilmCenter/ Colfax.
Get your Affleck on with these back-to-back, action crime dramas, both directed by Ben Affleck and starring him or younger brother Casey.
At 7:30pm is Gone Baby Gone, based on the novel by bestseller Dennis Lehane, starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, and Amy Ryan, in an Oscar nominated role. Set in a gritty Boston neighborhood, Affleck and Monaghan are private investigators put on a case alongside the local police, to find a missing young girl, but aren’t prepared for what they’ll uncover.
At 9:40 is The Town, based on the novel Prince of Thieves by Chuck Hogan, starring Ben Affleck, John Hamm, Blake Lively, and Jeremy Renner, in a Best Supporting Actor nominated role. Friends since childhood, who double as some of the best bank robbers in the state, go in for a typical heist that goes all wrong. Affleck takes a liking to the bank manager and forms a relationship, while the FBI stays hot on her trail as they try to solve the puzzle.
Wednesday, April 27 – Killing Kasztner – Director Gaylen Ross in Person!
At 7:00, engage yourself in Killing Kasztner, the documentary about Rezso Kasztner, who tried to rescue the last million Jews of Europe by negotiating face-to-face with Nazi leader Adolf Eichmann. While he was able to save hundreds and was viewed by some as a hero, he was later accused of collaborating with the enemy, He went on to fight a losing battle which resulted in his assassination.
Part real time investigation, part historical journey the filmmaker unearths the Kasztner story and its ramifications for the survivors, his family, and his country, exploring the very nature of history itself: who writes it, how it is remembered, and what is at stake for the present, and future.

Thursday, April 28 – Colorado Cinema Salon – The Long Shadow - Film, The Holocaust and Artistic Responsibility
Beginning at 7:00, this edition of the Colorado Cinema Salon precedes the Denver FilmCenter’s Holocaust Awareness Day screening (Sunday, May 1) of Claude Lanzmann’s landmark 9 ½-hour documentary, SHOAH.
The Salon, curated and hosted by Robert Denerstein, will begin with a short selection of clips provided by the USC Shoah Foundation Institute. The clips will be introduced by the Center’s development director Daisy Miller, herself a Holocaust survivor. The Salon discussion will also focus on a variety of issues suggested by the way filmmakers (in both fictional and documentary contexts) have treated the Holocaust on film as we attempt to identify the challenges and responsibilities of filmmakers who engage profoundly disturbing historical material.
Friday, April 29 – Women + Film – The Whistleblower – Director Larysa Kondracki in Person!
At 7:00 check out The Whistleblower, Director Larysa Kondracki’s feature film directorial debut. Inspired by true events, and starring Rachel Weisz, this is the story of a police officer in the Midwest who takes a job as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia, only to have her desires to make a difference extinguished by the harsh reality of the corrupt environment that surrounds her.
