On August 9th, the Great Lakes Witchs Council will be holding a cook book recipe collection with the goal of creating a cookbook to be auctioned off to benefit the Michigan Pagan College Scholarship Fund. They will be holding this event all day at their table at Pagan Pride Day Detroit in Green Acres Park. This is their way of contributing to the theme of this year's Pagan Pride Day Detroit, which is We Are ALL Family.

The Michigan Pagan Scholarship offers a

"$500.00 Pagan College Scholarship for a high school senior. All applicants must live in State of Michigan. Applicants must be 17 years of age or older, have a current GPA of 2.5 or higher, be Pagan, and currently accepted in a full time course of study in any accredited technical college, general college, university. Applicants must provide their most recent school transcript to establish state of residency, and GPA requirements. In addition they must also state the reason for applying for this scholarship and submit a essay about what being a Pagan means to them."

Part of the service ministries of the Universal Society of Ancient Ministry. This group is a fully realized church, with an active congregation, of Pagans dedicated to living and practicing their beliefs everyday. Their facilitated programs include

  • Community Relief Fund
  • Pagans In Need
  • Little Witches Ball
  • Michigan Pagan College Scholarship
  • Spiral Circle 13 Step Recovery Group in cooperation with Crystal Pathways

The G.L.W.C., as it is called by the local Pagan community, is a collective that has long held unusual, and fun, events that strive to educate as well as entertain. They promise cookies (while supplies last), fun, fellowship, and a chance to be a part of something that will benefit the youth. Their events have been held at various events and locations throughout Southeastern Michigan.

The cookbook will be comprised of recipes donated by individuals and groups, with full credits being given to the names supplied with the recipes. They are also asking for anecdotes, illustrations, or kitchen tips. The collection will be bound into a wooden covered book, woodburned and hand decorated, as a keepsake volume to be donated for the cause. Recipes will later be available for free individual download at a later date on a Yahoo group for the contributors.

Paperback copies will be available for purchase after the auction. The collection will continue until the November 1st. They are hoping to make this an annual event.
