On Saturday, October 5th, 2013 a group of 8 kids and 15 volunteers from Dreams for Kids DC descended upon &pizza for an exciting afternoon of pizza making, marking the very first collaboration between Dreams for Kids and one of U street’s best pizzerias.
Dreams for Kids DC is a local non-profit that seeks to empower physically and developmentally disabled children between the ages of 4-24. Executive director Glenda Fu organizes a wide variety of activities for interested kids, including watching and participating in sports activities, attending holiday functions, and partaking in special events such as the pizza making class. Events are always free for participants, and the volunteer to participant ration is always 1:1.
At the pizza making clinic, the involved kids were provided with a hunk of pizza dough, tomato sauce, and a variety of delicious and fresh toppings like mozzarella cheese and veggies. The kids exercised their creative skills by making their own personal pizzas, which were then baked off, and eaten by their creators. Their enthusiasm in making the pizza and the empty plates at the end of the event were enough evidence of the fantastic experience had by the kids.
