Didn’t receive your “special” pass to get into the Farm to Table Lounge? No worries, Examiner.com has you covered. We are hosting this year’s GABF Beer and Food Pavilion where participants can learn how to pair beer with food, sample some local meats and cheeses and even create a “hang-over cure”. There is a great lineup of chefs and brewers to expand your palate while taking a break from all that beer tasting. Sessions are limited to the first 90 seated guests, so get there early. Here’s the schedule:
Thursday Sept. 24th
6:00 – 6:30 pm Think Local, Drink Local
Free State Brewing Company Executive Chef Rick Martin describes the benefits of eating and drinking local with Head Brewer Steve Bradt. They will provide handy tips on how to match local produce, meats and cheeses with the local craft beer in your town while preparing some delicious samples for the audience.
7:00 – 7:30 pm Beer and Cheese: Pure Indulgence
Tasting Beer author Randy Mosher presents four pairings of richly-flavored beers and cheeses, showing how delicious and sophisticated they can be together. Participants will also leave with a list of can't-fail pairings
8:00 – 9:00 pm Pairing with Belgian and Sour Ales
Sean Paxton, The Homebrew Chef; Will Meyers, Cambridge Brewing Company; and Ron Jeffries, Jolly Pumpkin Brewing Co. will focus on cooking and pairing food with Belgian and Sour ales. Flavor profiles will be discussed with food and beer samples for seated attendees.
Friday, Sept. 25th
6:00 – 6:30 pm Cooking with Beer
Chef Teddy Folkman (Granville Moore's Gastropub and Food Network) shares ideas on cooking with beer and its numerous uses from brining to making sauces. Taste the dish he created to beat Chef Bobby Flay in Food Network's Throwdown with Bobby Flay.
7:00 – 7:30 pm Pairing with Malty and Hoppy Beers
Sean Paxton, The Homebrew Chef; Matt Brynildson, Firestone Walker Brewing Company and Barnaby Struve, Three Floyds Brewing Co. focus on cooking and pairing with malty and hoppy beers in the kitchen and at the table.
8:00 – 9:00 pm Shmaltz Brewing Company and Choice City Butcher present Jewbelation 13: Two Jews Walk Into A Craft Beer Bar Mitzvah
Shmaltz Brewing Company, is turning 13! To commemorate this momentous coming of age, celebrate with founder Jeremy Cowan and Russ Robinson of Choice City Butcher From Ft. Collins, CO), with the launch of Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah, brewed with 13 malts, 13 hops and punching in at 13% abv.
Saturday Sept. 26th
1:15 – 3:00 pm Great American Beer Festival Awards Ceremony
Avoid the crowds and watch the GABF Award Presentation on screen as the award ceremony takes place on the main stage at the back of the hall.
3:30 – 4:15 pm Beers with Comfort Foods
Beer is food according to Rogue Advocate, Sebbie Buhler. This tasting experience will touch on the versatility of beer as the ultimate beverage. Explore the flavors of Rogue Creamery Cheese, Nueske's Bacon, and Tcho chocolate, paired with a selection of beer from Rogue Ales and Issaquah Brewhouse.
6:00 – 6:30 pm Hangover Cures for Over-Zealous Celebrators
Achieving the perfect hangover is both an art and a science. Beer Fox Carolyn Smagalski will show you how to spot those high-powered beers and how to soothe the hangover after celebrating with too much enthusiasm.
7:00 – 7:30 pm Two Old Pros Paired Up Again
San Francisco Beer Chef, Bruce Paton and Allagash founder and Brewmaster, Rob Tod, will be on hand to pair luscious Butter Poached Prawns with ginger scallion sauce and the incomparable Allagash Hugh Malone ale.
