Great American Beer Festival

Today kicks off the Brewers Association’s 29th annual Great American Beer Festival. The festival is located at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. The festival features more than 2,000 different beers from more than 450 American breweries. It is featured in the Guinness Book of World Records as having more beers on tap than any other place in the world!
And what’s that? A local brewery is making an appearance this year? That is correct; Clipper City Brewing Company will be competing for a beer medal! Hugh Sisson (founder) and Ernie Igot (brewmaster) head up the local brewery, located in the Halethorpe area of Baltimore, with their combined 50 years of ex-beer-ience (too much?) The brewery produces 21 styles of ales and lagers. Argh, what be the beer? Heavy Seas is the official beer of Clipper City. It has won several beer awards since it opened its doors in 1994. Check some out at the next Heavy Seas Pyrate Party!
What else? You can not only drink the beer, but you can use it to make food? Fantastic! Check out the Recipes section of the website that features yummy-sounding recipes such as “Beer Batter Turkey” and “Drunken Stuffing.” These sound like great recipes for the Fall season! If you prefer merely to imbibe your beer, the Beers section lists the wide selection of Heavy Seas beers, as well as what foods they pair well with.
If you are lucky enough to be attending the members-only awards ceremony in Denver on Saturday, cross your fingers for our local boys at Clipper City Brewery!
