As the Zombie legions continue to climb out of the earth toward competitive legitimacy, cards like Gravecrawler will be instrumental. With just one Zombie on the board, your legion of 2/1 beaters can come back from the yard for a single point of mana, turning these ghoulish delights into the next BloodghastGravecrawler looks poised to pave the way for a Magic: The Gathering Zombie Apocalypse in Innistrad block and DKA, perfect for early game beats that won’t quit or fueling Endless Ranks of the Dead.

If and when competitive Zombies become a thing, you can be sure that Gravecrawlers will be included in the brain-eating soiree as the rank and file ground troops of the tribal engine.  Players will never be hurting for early game assaults or bodies on the board with Gravecrawlers in your undead arsenal.  Whatever other tools Dark Ascension brings the tribe may catapult these capricious corpses to the level of competitive tribal that Vampires have recently enjoyed or better, so keep an unwavering eye on these rising dead.

Gravecrawler could also become the perfect keystone for a sacrifice engine of some kind, providing plentiful fodder for just B over and over. Grimgrin is hungry!

Get your first opportunity dig up a pile of new friends with Gravecrawler at Dark Ascension prerelease events, running January 28-29.
