Girls Rock After School Program’s (GRASP) first showcase of the year on March 16, will feature twelve bands of young girls aged 8 through 18 from the program to perform their original music live in a showcase.
Bay Area Girls Rock Camp, which fosters the 10-week GRASP program, is a Bay Area nonprofit to help young girls empower themselves through creating music and support self-confidence, creativity and collaboration. The girls attend after school lessons and learn about instruments, forming a band, writing original music, workshops and at the end of the GRASP program, perform in a live showcase. Bay Area Girls Rock Camp also has other programs such as Summer Camp, Women’s Rock Camp and an Advanced Music Program.
GRASP’s showcase on March 16 will be held at The New Parish, 579 18th Street in Oakland, CA. Doors open at 2pm, show at 3pm. Tickets are sliding scale $10-$15, no one turned away for lack of funds. Youth 18 and under are free.
There are volunteer and mentorship positions open and Bay Area Girls Rock Camp encourages a diverse volunteer base.
