Grant advances to finals at Calgary Stampede

According to the Calgary Stampede website on Friday, Morgan Grant of Granton, Ontario has accomplished a remarkable feat and has advanced to two different finals on Sunday at the Calgary Stampede. Grant finished in the top four in each the tie-down roping and the steer wrestling competitions.
Grant posted the fastest steer wrestling time of 4.3 seconds on the final day of Pool B competition, and won the Pool B aggregate standings by winning $13,500. Grant will be joined in the final on Sunday from Pool B with steer wrestlers Cody Cassidy of Donalda, Alberta, Matt Reeves of Cross Plains, Texas and Trevor Knowles of Mount Vernon, Oregon.

In the tie-down roping meanwhile, Grant squeaked into the finals with a fourth place finish in the pool B aggregate standings despite not registering a time on Friday. Grant will be joined in the final with Matt Shiozawa of Chubbuck, Idaho, Shane Hanchey of Sulphur, Louisiana and Nathan Baldwin of Blackfoot, Idaho.

In the other timed competition, ladies barrel racing, Michele McLeod of Whitesboro, Texas advanced to Sunday's final by posting the fastest time on Friday at 17.23 seconds. She will be joined by Jean Winters of Texline, Texas, Nancy Hunter of Neloa, Utah and Sherry Cervi of Marana, Arizona in the final.
In bull riding, two Canadian cowboys are on their way to the final--Ty Pozobon of Merritt, British Columbia and Zane Lambert of Ponoka, Alberta. They will be joined by J.B. Mauney of Mooresville, North Carolina and Mike Lee of Fort Worth, Texas.

In saddle bronc, the four Pool B finalists are Wade Sundell of Boxholm, Iowa, Chad Ferley of Oelrichs, South Dakota, Cody Wright of Milford, Utah and Cort Scheer of Elsmere, Nebraska. In bareback, the four Pool B finalists are Justin McDaniel of Porum, Oklahoma, Steven Peebles of Redmond, Oregon, Austin Foss of Terrebonne, Oregon and Kaycee Feild of Spanish Fork, Utah.

Finally in chuckwagon racing, Jason Glass of High River, Alberta won the aggregate standings and the Richard Cosgrave Memorial Award with an overall time of 9:36.71. The other drivers to advance to Sunday's final are Kurt Bensmiller of Dewberry, Alberta, Rick Fraser of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Rae Croteau Jr. of Sundre, Alberta, Jerry Bremner of Westerose, Alberta, Wayne Knight of St. Walburg, Saskatchewan, Gary Gorst of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan and Luke Tournier of Duck Lake, Saskatchewan.
