Sunday is Grandparents day and grandchildren around the country are scrambling around for gifts for their own grandparents; just like Father’s and Mother’s day, Grandparents day is celebrated around the US each year. The news has created a buzz Sunday morning.
Grandfather’s day was created in 1970 and is a lesser known holiday that celebrates visiting grandparents.
Grandparents day was created by Marian McQuade, who lived in West Virginia and she created the day to remind families to visit their grandparents. She lobbied her idea through her local senators and they introduced Grandparents day to the White House. Every year, it is the first Sunday after Labor Day and President Jimmy Carter officially signed it into law in 1978, according to Grandparents.com.
There is also a Grandparents day song by Johnny Prill called "A Song for Grandma and Grandpa."
A gift to any grandparent on Grandparents day should be a visit from their grandchildren; cards may also be appreciated for those who live far away from their grandparents. Blue Mountain Cards will send an instant card for free with just an email address.
