An anonymous grandfather is being praised for his heartfelt letter blasting his own daughter for the shabby treatment of her gay son, according to an article on the Daily Mail on Thursday.
The bluntly beautiful letter first appeared this week on the Facebook page of FCKH8.com. Speaking with wisdom that usually comes only with age, the unnamed grandfather tells his daughter, named Christine:
I’m disappointed in you as a daughter. You’re correct that we have a “shame in the family”, but mistaken about what it is.
Kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real “abomination” here. A parent disowning her child is what goes “against nature”.
As well as blasting his daughter for her extreme treatment of her own son, he then tries to reason with her by saying that Chad 'didn’t choose it [being gay] any more than he being left-handed.'
The grandfather goes on to describe his daughter’s actions as ‘hurtful, narrow-minded and backward,’ before threatening to disowned her for being a 'heart-less B-word of a daughter.'
The letter does end on a conciliatory note, as he asks Christine to give him a call.
Since being posted on Monday, the letter has generated more than 14,000 likes, almost 7,000 shares and 3,000 comments overwhelmingly in support of the grandfather’s comments.
"He's a great man, for sure, but he's doing his job.....standing up for his grandchild!"
"This man is amazing! I am in total awe and respect for him."
The admins of FCKH8 have even put in their two cents, saying "Best letter we've read... maybe ever".
Update: Luke Montgomery of FCKH8 just emailed Gawker to say the letter was sent in by Chad himself. He adds:
I'm trying to get the teen and his grandpa to come out publicly and do media interviews to spread the word. Right now they are scared and a bit intimidated with all the requests because it seems the kid is not out. I'll forward your contact info to them and work on getting them to speak out because it would be so good for the cause.
