Grandmother kills grandchildren after taking them from Connecticut daycare

A grandmother killed her two grandsons after picking them up from their daycare in Connecticut on Feb. 26, 2013.

Hours after an Amber Alert was issued for the missing children, Ashton Perry, 2, and his brother, Alton, 6 months, were found dead in their grandmother's car in North Stonington, CT.

State police tell NBC Connecticut that their grandmother, Debra Denison killed her grandchildren. She was also found dead in the car.

State police report that the Denison was supposed to pick the young boys up at the daycare and bring them home for Alton's birthday party.

The children were last seen with their grandmother when she picked them up at the daycare in Preston, CT at approximately 2:30 p.m.

An Amber Alert was issued in the early evening hours after the parents became concerned with the well being of their children.

Brenda Perry, the boys' mother, told NBC Connecticut that Denison suffered from mental illness, including split personalities. She and her husband confirmed that she owned a gun.

Police cancelled the Amber Alert at approximately 9:30 p.m. after Denison's car was located near Lake of Isle in Preston. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they pronounced the grandmother and her two grandchildren dead at the scene.

Police have not confirmed how the children died, but Brenda Perry and her husband both state that the grandmother, Debra Denison, owned a gun.
