Grandma threatens to bomb elementary school

SAN ANTONIO, TX --- A grandmother in Texas is accused of phoning a bomb threat to an elementary school after school administrators refused to let her see her visit her grandchildren.

51-year-old Velma Gladys Brewster was charged with a third-degree felony, after she made terrorist threats against Windcreast Elementary School. She was arrested Thursday and released from jail after posting bail.

According to an affidavit, school officials evacuated more then 678 students and around 85 staff members after school officials received a threatening voicemail which had been left Wednesday night.

School administrators recognized the female voice on the answering machine as that of Brewster’s and contacted police.

The conflict began a day earlier, when the school’s principle issued a trespass warning after Brewster attempted to visit her granddaughters without the permission from her daughter. According to police, Brewster was asked to leave the school after she caused a disturbance on Wednesday.

Subsequent to her arrest the San Antonio police bomb squad unit searched Brewster’s residence and found no suspicious devices.
