Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V succeeded in setting record-breaking sales in its opening weeks of availability. Selling over 15 million copies and earning over $1 billion in revenue, GTA V is one of the biggest selling and top-earning games of the console generation. On Oct. 15, Wedbush Securities shared their projections for Sept. NPD sales results and they have GTA V as the best-selling game of the month, according to a report by GamesIndustry.biz.
Wedbush Securities expects Sept. software sales to reach $910 million – which amounts to an increase of 84% year-over-year. The jump being primarily fueled by the sales of GTA V in North America on PS3 and Xbox 360. Furthermore, GTA V is expected to be named the best-selling game of Sept. with FIFA 14 and NBA 2K14 rounding out the top three spots.
Likewise, major Aug. releases like Disney Infinity and Madden 25 contribute to Sept.’s strong software sales.
Wedbush also expects the month of Oct. to have strong software sales. They believe Grand Theft Auto V will continue to sell well, as will Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Battlefield 4.
