Mark you calendars, GTA fans! Announced over social media on January 30th, Rockstar has revealed the newest installment of Grand Theft Auto's release slot. September 17th, 2013 will be the day every GTA fan requests off from work.
Originally expected to release in Q2 of 2013, Rockstar has stated, "GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require."
Apologies for the four-month delay were strewn about in Rockstar's official announcement on their blog. In a response to negative feedback, Rockstar had this to say:
"Hey all, we understand many of you guys are disappointed with this news – unfortunately sometimes such delays are necessary in all forms of entertainment, and especially in the case of a game experience as massive and complex as GTAV. However this does not give you free reign to be abusive in comments. The general rules of common courtesy, decency and behavior as listed above the Comment Box still apply here, therefore anyone continuing to post abusive comments will have their privileges suspended. Also for those of you asking about the official box art, that will be coming out a bit later as well. Thank you all for understanding."
Set in the fictional world of Los Santos, modeled after Los Angeles, Rockstar games builds the largest 'Grand Theft Auto' seen yet. This modern day Southern California is larger than 'Red Dead Redemption', 'San Andreas', and 'Grand Theft Auto IV' combined. We've done the math, and that's bigger than 58 square miles, "with room to spare," or roughly the size of real world Richmond, Virginia.
Grand Theft Auto V will likely retail at $59.99 and is available to pre-order at any gaming retailer nationwide.
