“Whenever someone sees the color green I want them to think of me!” Those were the ecstatic words from Carolina Montoya of UNIQUE Designer’s Cake as she kicked off the grand opening of her green and pink showroom in Midtown on Friday, March 15, 2013. Complete with a green carpet, a DJ, and a one-of-a-kind cake, the grand opening was the ultimate celebration of the journey she has gone on since making the career change from architect to baker in 2009. The grand opening was Montoya’s way of further making her mark in a dessert-making industry that has applauded and awarded her custom-made, completely edible works of cake art. The grand opening was not only Montoya’s way of saying “UNIQUE Designer’s Cake is here to stay” but also the Miami’s way of saying “We want more of your sweet treats.” Throughout the three-hour celebration, servers dressed in green offered up an assortment of bite-size cupcakes and truffles that appealed to every taste bud: red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, carrot, and cheese. The night truly was a celebration of the power of well-made and addicting sweets.
