Grand Lucayan Hotel Bahamas Proves Affordable Luxury Still Exists

Just 55 miles off the coast of Florida’s Grand Bahama Island is a place where both families and couples can experience and enjoy a classic Caribbean vacation without the time and expense associated with many of the other more expensive islands. With so many choices, this is an excellent place to call home-base whether your plan is to shop, have an active eco- vacation or do what I prefer which is nothing more than take a very leisurely stroll from my room to the pool. It couldn't be easier to get there with solid service and on time flights from Silver Airways taking you to where lush tropical lawns meet the 7.5 acre white sandy beach creating everything I expected from a resort that boasts a balance between affordable luxury with the opportunity for the young and young at heart to enjoy. The largest pool is set aside to capture the party vibe far removed from the infinity pool, which offers a sense of tranquility in an adult’s only atmosphere.

Like most destinations, accommodations vary. I enjoyed my newly renovated ocean view suite and recommend considering spending the extra money as the main building caters to a lively crowed, especially during the evening hours. Each room reflects the bright and fresh Caribbean feel and is steps away from morning coffee, evening cocktails, or just taking the time admire the spectacular views.

My battle cry for complimentary Wi-Fi does not fall on deaf ears here, but while Wifi is a necessity not a luxury today for any active traveler, guests have much more to do than surf the net with three swimming pools, a challenging golf course and four tennis courts as well as a fully appointed fitness center and spa. Nearby water activities include snorkeling at the mystical Deadman's Reef, exploring one of world's longest underwater caves at Lucayan National Park.

Outdoor adventures for the entire family includes horseback riding, bicycling, bird watching, or visits to the three National Parks of Grand Bahama Island. Be sure to check the hotel’s events calendar for special celebrations throughout your stay. Children will enjoy a visit to The Club House while mom and dad take in some fun at the casino, or relax at the spa and fitness center with its hydrotherapy tub, traditional wood saunas, steam rooms and three facial rooms.

Hungry? Have no fear as the property boasts seven restaurants offering casual beachside cuisine as well as fine dining.

The Grand Lucayan has aptly coined 2014 “The Year of the Yes,” so say yes to the classic Bahamian experience and enjoy the Bahamas within an upscale setting that remains affordable.
