Grand Canyon and Motel 6

See also

You don't have to stay in Flagstaff is you're traveling to the Grand Canyon with your loyal four-footed companion. On my first trip out to New Mexico, I decided to try the less popular Williams, Arizona. On my second trip, both the Williams West and East Motel 6 were full (except for one smoking room) so we tried Bellemont, Arizona.

Williams East is walking distance (for me) to Williams West. I found Williams East was quiet and close enough to a Safeway. I did stop in Flagstaff before Williams East to pick up some food at a Cracker Barrel. Both are less than a mile from the Grand Canyon Railways Williams (0.2 for Williams West and 0.8 for Williams East).

The rooms were big--enough for me and two collies. The Internet was Wi-Fi and I had no trouble connecting within my room. I'm not a heavy sleeper and my dogs sometimes bark, but it was quiet enough for me. However, with graduation coming up at the nearby college or other events, the Williams East and West does fill up.

The Bellemont is so out of the way there's not much in the way of food unless you don't mind fast food. You'll have to settle for a Bar and Grill (Route 66 Roadhouse Bar & Grill where you can cook our own burgers), although there is one pizza place that delivers from Flagstaff.

The Bellemont was quiet and the first time we stayed we didn't have any trouble with the Wi-fi (free and in the rooms). The second stay was a different matter. Internet reception was spotty.

I'm not sure if the cleanup crew is dogwise in the sense that the second time we stayed there, the bedspread was clean but the dogs were really excited by it. So much so that for the first time ever, one of our dogs peed on top of the bed. We quickly got a replacement. Of course, dog owners know that a simple wash won't erase the urine smell for a dog. You need to add something as simple as vinegar. Next time, maybe we'll back some vinegar to help the staff out.

In the case of all three, the floor surface was not carpet (easy to clean for dog owners). Our stay was quiet. We used ice since we didn't have a refrigerator. We also didn't have a microwave. The rooms were clean. The TV worked. Parking was easy and free. The Bellemont is next to a gas station.
