Grammy Preview 2011

Well it seems like the Grammy voters are finally loosening up. This year’s nominees are just what people are actually listening to these days. I cover the major categories: who should win and who will win for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, airing on CBS this Sunday February 13 at 8 PM EST.

Record of the Year

“Nothing On You”—B.O.B. featuring Bruno Mars

“Love the Way You Lie”—Eminem featuring Rihanna

“F*** You”—Cee Lo Green

“Empire State of Mind”—Jay-Z & Alicia Keys

“Need You Now”—Lady Antebellum

SHOULD AND WILL WIN: “Empire State of Mind”. Jay & Alicia deserve this one hands down. It was the anthem of the year.

Album of the Year

The Suburbs—Arcade Fire

Recovery—Eminem

Need You Now—Lady Antebellum

The Fame Monster—Lady Gaga

Teenage Dream—Katy Perry

Ok here’s the thing with album of the year—the grammy voters will divide up between Arcade Fire and Lady Antebellum only for one reason—they actually play instruments! Even though Eminem was the best selling album of 2010, the bands may have it.

Best New Artist

Justin Beiber

Drake

Florence & The Machine

Mumford & Sons

Esperanza Spalding

Should Win: I want to see Florence & the Machine take this so badly!

Will Win: But nevertheless it’s a toss up between Esperanza Spalding and Mumford and Sons, again instrumentation is key.

Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals

“Don’t Stop Believin’”—Glee Cast

“Misery”—Maroon 5

“The Only Exception”—Paramore

“Babyfather”—Sade

“Hey, Soul Sister” (Live)—Train

Hands down will and should win: Train “Hey, Soul Sister”. The band had a second life after this song.

Song of the Year

I’m not even gonna list the nominees for this one!

“Love the Way You Lie”—Eminem featuring Rihanna

(enough said!)
