One of the most asked questions in rock and roll history is ‘The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?’ This year it is asked yet again but at The Grammy Awards. Paul McCartney has released a deluxe version of his and Linda McCartney’s only album credited to them both, ‘RAM’ and The Rolling Stones issued a deluxe version of their immensely popular album, ‘Some Girls.’ The category is Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package. Even though it is not the actual Beatles in this match up it still holds precedence in this scenario. Does McCartney alone, have what it takes to throw down with the Rolling Stones?
According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ‘Some Girls’ has gone 6xPlatinum and ‘RAM’ has only reached Platinum status once. Each album has already proven to be strong when they were originally released in the 1970’s but the main question in 2013 is ‘which edition has superior bonus tracks?’ First look at the number of tracks that each added. ‘RAM’ has an additional eight tracks whereas ‘Some Girls’ has an additional twelve but the actual content is very close in running time. According to the Billboard charts ‘RAM’ reached #24 and ‘Some Girls’ only reached #46 when they were released in their deluxe editions so we know where the record-buying fans stand. With that being said, one also must now take into consideration that the Billboard charts have recently changed their regulations. The growing popularity of internet music streaming companies such as Spotify, where both albums are available, has made the amount of activity on these internet outlets now considered necessary criteria to be calculated into the matters like chart positions. This gives fans even more of a hand in making sure that their favorite musicians are recognized but who shall take home the Grammy this year?
The Grammy Awards are known to jump around in credibility so the outcome is extremely hard to even begin to predict. These two albums are the likely front runners for this category and the world will soon know who is victorious in this age old gauntlet that will not seem to go away. The Grammy Awards will be filmed live, in Los Angeles, on February 10, 2013 on CBS at 8/7c. Here is the link to the complete list of nominees.
