Grammy Awards show with two Beatles scores second largest audience in 21 years

CBS' broadcast of "The 56th Annual Grammy Awards" on Jan. 26 which was highlighted by a performance by Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr scored over 28 million viewers, the second largest audience for the awards show since 1993, the network announced in a press release of its weekly Nielsen audience viewer ratings Jan. 28.

The Grammy Awards show was the most popular show in the weekly Nielsen ratings report which listed prime-time shows from Jan. 20 to Jan. 26. CBS crowed it had eight of the top 20 programs, more than any other network, and five of the top 10 shows popular among those ages 18 to 49: “The 56th Annual Grammy Awards” (#1), “How I Met Your Mother” (#6), a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” (#7), “2 Broke Girls” (#9) and “The Big Bang Theory 9 p.m. Special” (#10).

It also said the awards show posted its second-largest audience in 21 years since February 1993. The highest-rated show was the 2012 show that followed Whitney Houston's death.
