Grammy Awards Lounge behind the scenes with celebrity swimwear D'Milikah (Photos)

Alexandria, VA based and Brazilian native, Emily Gonzaga was the highlight of this year’s Grammy gifting suites at the Staples Center, in downtown Los Angeles. Gonzaga’s company D’Milikah released a collection specifically for the 55th annual Grammy Awards. I sat down with the designer to talk a little about her line and give you sneak peek at the Grammy’s goodies.

Q: Can you tell us about your collection?

A: I have 27 styles for this collection called Blurry Feminine. I chose 5 styles and brought them to the Grammy’s lounge. There are two different prints, the citrus snake and the tiger print. I felt flesh colors would help fit the taste of celebrities.

Q: What inspired you to be a swimsuit designer?

A: I’m from Brazil and we have a little house on the beach. Going down every weekend, seeing different types of body forms and shapes, hearing complaints of how uncomfortable women are in their swimsuits…that’s how I started.

Another inspiration for Gonzaga’s designs was her Grandmother, an avid crochet artist. Gonzaga fell in love with the handcraft as a child and infused it into her full collection. “There’s an Italian side of crochet”, she reveals and Gonzaga pays homage to her Grandmother’s heritage adding a dash of macramé to the line that can be viewed at www.dmilikah.com.

Q. Which suit would you recommend for the woman who is body conscious?

A: The Nadia has a bandeau top and what makes it really interesting is the rouched bottom that hides imperfections. I had a baby so I started thinking about going into this direction.

The Nadia’s waistband can be pulled up to create a high waist glamorous camouflage for the tummy area. And when you’re ready to reveal those hard-earned abs, the waistband can be scrunched down to a sexy wink of color at your waist.

From legendary siren Chaka Khan to the new ladies man of R&B, Miguel, D'Milikah is the number one choice for the hottest swimwear of the season.
