Few bands have a reputation for making music as consistently honest, organic and daring as Gov’t Mule. Now the enduring group, fronted by visionary, GRAMMY Award-winning singer-guitarist Warren Haynes (with drummer/co-founder Matt Abts, keyboardist-guitarist Danny Louis and bassist Jorgen Carlsson) has delivered once again with their first album in four years. Their Blue Note Records debut Shout! is a breath-taking, exploratory double-disc set. The album shines a spotlight on the virtuosity and intelligence that has made Gov’t Mule so extraordinary over the past two decades. Their rich history began in 1994 with their eponymous debut that found the band reinvigorating old-school psychedelic blues-rock. The band’s fan base steadily expanded over the course of 15 critically acclaimed studio and live releases, millions of songs sold and thousands of performances, making them the consummate live act.

Today, Gov’t Mule have become a human encyclopedia of great American music while still adding to the cannon. Through it all Haynes has served as not only the group’s captain, but as a beacon of creativity and excellence that inspires fans and fellow musicians.

On Shout!, Gov’t Mule are offering an unprecedented gift for fans - a double-disc album that features all-star guests vocally re-interpreting each new Mule song - Elvis Costello, Dr. John, Ben Harper, Toots Hibbert, Glenn Hughes, Jim James, Myles Kennedy, Dave Matthews, Grace Potter, Vintage Trouble’s Ty Taylor and Steve Winwood. The album bears the jazz-like philosophy, stunning scope and creative language that the band has developed together. They’re the rare rock ‘n’ roll group with an improvisational heartbeat, a quality that distinguishes the finest rock, blues and jazz recordings of all time. It’s no wonder fans of the GRAMMY-nominated band have come to expect nothing less than the inventive and incendiary songs that propel Shout!. [from Gov't Mule biography]
