Lost in the chaos that was Brook Lopez's broken right foot, the Nets made an even roster swap.
Enter DeShawn Stevenson, say goodbye to Stephen Graham.
Graham was a well-liked role player that did not bring much to the Nets offense but did play a little bit of defense.
Stevenson, the 6-foot-5 swingman, won an NBA championship last season with the Dallas Mavericks. He knocked down three three-pointers in a starting role in Game 6.
Billy King inked Stevenson to a one-year, $2.5 million deal.
He brings an added toughness and attitude to the floor. With Shawne Williams and Stevenson, the Nets will not be pushovers like they have been in years past.
King noted Stevenson's defensive tenacity is one of the reasons for the signing.
"He gives us a guy that has proven he likes to play defense and challenges guys defensively," King said. "Veteran presence that's played the game and understands it. So from that standpoint, he's won a championship, so he knows what they had to put in to win it."
One of the other reasons might have been Deron Williams.
"(He was) definitely one of my suggestions," Williams said.
"A player like DeShawn brings toughness and defense, defensive-minded," Williams added. "(He's) another shooter that can space the floor. I think he's going to be a good addition to our team, a guy that knows how to play basketball. He's been in the playoffs year after year. He's won a championship. He brings a winning attitude to this team, which is something we need."
Stevenson made 54 starts last season.
