May is National Stroke Awareness Month. And there is no better way to celebrate this event than the opening of Grady's new Marcus Stoke and Neuroscience Center. Atlanta will be proud to know that the new state of the art center will provide new and upcoming technologies in stroke research to be improved on and evaluated to provide quality and time effective stroke care to residents of the southeastern United States
Did you know:
Atlanta is located in the heart of the "stroke belt" encompassing eight states that show significantly high rates of stroke?
Every 40 seconds someone in America has a stroke?
African Americans and women are at higher risk of dying from a stroke?
The new stroke center at Grady hopes to change some of the above statistics. According to Grady President and CEO Michael Young:
"The new Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience center provides the entire region with a much needed resource for combating the third leading cause of death in our state. Grady Health System is dedicated to offering the most innovative and advanced medical care in Georgia. Through our generous donors and dedicated physicians and staff, we are now providing leading-edge acute emergency care for traumatic brain injury and stroke patients. "
