Grace Potter and the Nocturnals: Roar Tour in Detroit

Grace Potter- the quintessential rock star in a mini-dress, is currently on the road on her latest tour. The Roar Tour will be stopping at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak this Thursday, January 17. The show starts at 7:00 p.m, and features special guest Langhorne Slim as the opening act.

Grace Potter's performances are electric and frenzied, with some bluesy interludes arriving at well-timed intervals. Ms. Potter swings around unabashedly on stage, alternating between pounding the keys of her miniature keyboard, then raging on her electric guitar. When she sings, she gets down and dirty, wielding her commanding, sultry voice alongside her partners in crime, the Nocturnals.

Her band features Matt Burr on drums, Scott Tournet playing guitar, keyboards, and bass, with Benny Yurco on bass and guitar. They trade riffs, provide vocals, and are completely in-sync with Grace as she changes the pace from slow to fast then back again, likening the performance to a roller coaster ride- the wooden kind.

The latest album, The Lion The Beast The Beat, was released in 2012.

Royal Oak Music Theatre is located at 318 W. 4th Street, in Royal Oak.
