Those folks who create commemorative days have done it again, with another fantastic thing to celebrate on a random day such as this (July 1st): it's International Joke Day, and that's nothing to laugh about!

You've often been told (and no doubt offered) this advice: Laughter is the best medicine! So why not write a prescription for healthfulness today and tell a joke or two? After all, today is the day for it! According to Psychology Today's website, laughter improves relationships between men and women: married people who laugh more are happier and stay married longer. Studies also show that women laugh more than men, and that as people age, they laugh less.

From a physiological standpoint, laughter increases immune system activity and releases endorphins; studies have shown that folks with heart disease laugh 40% less than those without - so the adage is true: laughter is the best medicine - helping to fight off disease and protect your heart! (10 Benefits of Laughter)

Seriously speaking, International Joke Day exists to promote the spread of joy and laughter throughout the world. No one knows for sure the origins of the celebration, but with so much to worry about, who needs a reason to share humor with others? Laughter, like yawning, is contagious. So why not start a trend?

Post a joke here and share with the world on International Joke Day! If you're having trouble coming up with a joke, try Yahoo! Kids - it's good clean fun, and funny too!
