With a long holiday weekend approaching, many of us are wondering how to squeeze in our usual daily exercise without taking time away from family, friends, and fun. The solution: make this weekend’s fitness fun! Bring the whole gang and try one of these group options.
Go for a walk or bike ride.
Going for a casual walk or ride will get you moving yet still give you time to socialize. Most cities have great trail systems to travel on. Some great trails in the Des Moines area are: Gray’s Lake, Clive Greenbelt, Neil Smith trail, and Jordan Creek bike path.
Grab the football!
Fall and football season are both quickly approaching! Start a game of touch football for a little friendly competition and fun with family and friends! Or just toss the ball back and forth for a while with a good game of catch.
Toss a Frisbee
Frisbee isn’t just for fido! Grab a Frisbee and toss it around the yard, or see if your town has a local disc golf course to go play on! You don’t have to be a pro, just do your best and have fun! In Des Moines you can find disc golf courses in Ewing Park, Water Works Park, and numerous other locations across the metro.
These are just a few ways you can get in some exercise and still spend time with family and friends. Exercise doesn’t always have to be structured; put the fun back in your fitness routine this holiday weekend!
