Although it defies common sense, witch stories set in Florida are rare.
We in GreaterJax™ get to pass along one of the oldest.
Local legend has it that the good people of Fernandina Beach on a September 12th in the 1600s hanged a teenage girl for witchcraft.
Her grave, Wiccademous Grave, draws true believers and curiosity seekers most especially this time of year.
Say hey to one of Florida’s most haunted highschools
Yep, you guessed it – in close proximity to present-day Fernandina High School is an ancient oak tree and the Wiccademous Grave.
You’ll know you’ve been haunted when the ground shakes and the thunder rolls.
They are warnings to leave the dead to lie in peace, and sometimes the spooks warn you off.
But only sometimes.
Other times they’ll let you get all the way to the grave before they let you know they’re there.
As you turn to run, you scoop up some of Wiccademous on your clothes and hair, and you’ll have dreams about Wiccademous for two consecutive nights.
Local high schoolers swear it on a stack
Go back to Wiccademous Grave after the second dream, and she’ll meet you at the grave side.
Sometimes thrill seekers make it back out of the woods.
Sometimes they don’t.
Maybe there’s just one body at the bottom of Wiccademous’ ravine, and maybe there are many, many more.
Do the math, and have happy and safe Halloween!
